At this point in the season.... Producing a Win versus Assassins on Saturday, was absolutely necessary for us - in the scheme of things.

Perhaps this seems like an obvious statement to make... However, it was imperative to maintain the momentum and positive attitude, which we had gained through our previous two matches - especially after our 'sluggish' first month.

As well, we were facing an opponent who had defeated us in all three meetings in 2008 - including the Semi-finals. The Assassins certainly 'had our number' in 2008; and everyone within our squad was ready and eager to end their winning streak against us.

However, all the motivating factors aside - our guys knew that they would have to work tremendously hard for the win.... It was never going to be easy.

We started the match in determined fashion - and we certainly held a significant territorial advantage over most of the First-half.... However, even with the quality possession that we created for ourselves - the Assassins were very determined in their defence. The fact that it took us more then 30 minutes to finally cross their line is testimony to this fact.

Heading into the match, we wanted to improve on our Team Defence and Ball Retention in open play - and we did improve in both areas from our last outing versus the UM. The Assassins always play with a great deal of determination and vigour in the loose - so I knew that our work ethic would be tested.

I know that we certainly weren't content with our modest 10-0 lead at Half-time; but we seemed to be lacking a bit of initiative as the Second-half began, and consequently conceded an early try.... However, our general play and work ethic did improve over the final 25-30 minutes. And it was great to see our guys finish the match - in the same determined fashion, that they displayed at the start.

For many reasons, this was a win that the guys can certainly feel very positive about... It was a good win for us. And, it moves us to a more respectable record of 3-Wins & 3-Losses.... However, the guys also know that maintaining their focus and work ethic from this point onward, will be crucial.
