Speaking for the entire squad - Sunday’s was 'one of those' games, that leaves one
feeling a variety of mixed emotions.
I thought our guys worked tremendously hard throughout the match - and they know
they did. And there were a lot of very positive things which happened on the field
today... So, at the end of 80 minutes, having to accept a loss by 21 points was somewhat
- tough.
The level of commitment in our support play was much better than in our previous
two matches - and it was quite evident that all of the guys were really pushing themselves
to work, and to help maintain possession. As well, there were significantly more
determined, offensive attacks by our Forwards - which is something that was lacking
in our previous two contests. It was evident that all they guys really wanted to
make an impact, on attack - both individually and collectively.
Much of the talk prior to the match focused on our need to gain control of the match
in the opening stages - which we did do. Today was most certainly, without doubt,
our best start in three outings. The guys were playing motivated and determined rugby.
It was great to see. However, even after our earning a 10-0 lead after 20 minutes,
the Rowdies showed that they too were ready to play determined rugby. And to their
credit, they lead on the scoreboard at Half-time, 12-10.
I'll give the Rowdies full-credit for the victory today. They played a very determined
match - and they presented some tactical challenges to us. However, much of the 21
point differential at the end of the match, was the direct result our careless turnovers
- and some poor decision making under pressure. And the Rowdies capitalized on these
mistakes immediately.
In any event, we will have a few things to discuss at our upcoming training sessions
- as we prepare for our next match, versus Wasps on June 20th..
