THE BARBS’ TIME MACHINE A look back at some of the team’s most glorious moments |
|
The 2005 Manitoba Cup In 2005, Rugby Manitoba felt it was time for a change in the way the season played out. The first half was to be a competition for the Manitoba Cup; the second half was to be the usual divisional play.
According to Barbs’ Coach, Jon Fitzpatrick, “The MB Cup has been brought back as a single game elimination tournament over the first half of the season, it started in the first week, all games were the quarter finals.” Fitzy adds, “The second round is to be played over weeks 2 and 3 depending on who won. Our next game vs. the Wasps is the semi finals. Both teams won their first round games. And the finals are to come in weeks 4 through 7, once again depending on who wins.”
Anyway, in 2005, the Barbs went undefeated in the first half of the season and played the Rowdies in late July in Brandon for the Manitoba Cup. Click the “Play” button to see how handily the Barbs downed the Sturgeon Creek to win the first ever Manitoba Cup Championship. |
